ACLM’s new clinical practice guideline for type 2 diabetes care
Upcoming events, including an ACOEM Total Worker Health webinar
A recap of Food and Society at the Aspen Institute’s latest Food is Medicine convening
ACLM’s new clinical practice guideline provides a framework for integrating lifestyle-based treatment into routine diabetes management. “There is robust research evidence supporting the efficacy of lifestyle interventions in preventing, treating, and achieving remission of type 2 diabetes in adults. Our multidisciplinary guideline development group successfully synthesized this evidence into 14 key action statements that can be used by clinicians and other healthcare professionals to improve quality of care for adults with, or at-risk for, type 2 diabetes.” (Source: Sage Journals)
This Psychology Today article highlights Open Source Wellness’ Community as Medicine model that combines behavioral health coaching with group-based activities to deliver wellness in ways that are culturally inclusive, trauma-informed, and joyfully experiential. “It’s not therapy. It’s not a lecture. It’s an experience. And it’s proven to increase physical activity, improve nutrition, reduce depression and anxiety, and foster meaningful social connections.” AIH is delighted to support this research-backed, accessible approach to Whole Health. A recently published narrative review explores the interconnected roles of protein, fiber, and exercise in managing weight and improving cardiometabolic health. The article underscores the significant impact of higher fiber intake, noting how it enhances satiety, reduces metabolizable energy, and improves key cardiometabolic markers like cholesterol and blood sugar levels. MedStar Health: Culinary Medicine and Nutrition Curriculum for Residents
AIH is delighted to support MedStar Health’s Culinary Medicine and Nutrition Learning Curriculum for Residents in Training, designed to equip residents to treat diet-related diseases and chronic conditions. Despite nutrition’s essential role in preventing chronic disease, most physicians feel inadequately trained to offer nutrition counseling. MedStar Health’s curriculum is bridging this gap by empowering residents with the knowledge and tools needed to provide Whole Person Care.
Since 2014, AIH has granted over $19 million to Whole Health projects and initiatives. To learn more about AIH's granting work, click here.
